About this place
Tucked into Kanda-Ogawamachi and open only during limited weekday daytime hours, Fukusui is an indispensable neighbourhood Chinese diner when you want a fast, substantial meal from counter seating. Guests buy tickets from a vending machine outside before stepping inside, with a steady stream of diners ordering the classic pairing of ramen and a half-portion of fried rice. The ramen delivers an unpretentious, comforting profile anchored by clear soy-sauce flavour and finely cut braised pork, pairing naturally with savoury fried rice that keeps a moist, tender crumb alongside its loose grains.
Beyond the staple soy broth, the wok-tossed noodle bowls are just as compelling. The Cantonese noodles (kanton-men) gather an array of pork, prawns, squid, Chinese cabbage, wood-ear mushrooms, and a quail egg under a piping-hot thickened glaze that clings thoroughly to flat noodles, growing increasingly satisfying with every bite. The menu also offers tanmen, with mounded vegetables folded into a light salt broth, as well as rich miso ramen, giving you options to suit your mood on the day.
For rice-based meals, set options such as mounded liver-and-leek stir-fry, pork-and-vegetable stir-fry, and daily specials arrive with soup and pickles to make a thoroughly filling lunch. Adding a side of garlic-forward, tightly stuffed pan-fried gyoza alongside your noodles or set meal is another reliable choice.
Service runs on weekdays from 11:30 to 14:30, with payment accepted in cash only and no reservations taken. Queues often form around noon, but watching the kitchen staff's efficient, practised wok work makes the brief wait feel easy and relaxed.
